Is patent leather real leather or manmade materials?

I was looking at a purse that had patent leather handles, but do not want it if it's real in any way. Thanks for helping!

REAL patent leather is not manmade. It is real leather which has been covered with a linseed oil-based coating, though most modern patent leathers are made with plastic coatings.
